Laser Toenail Treatment

Noveon Podiatric Laser Toenail Treatment

Toenail Renewal is now an option!

Until recently, if you had toenail fungus, options to treat the disease were limited and often unsuccessful.  But with laser therapy, the toenails you remember may be yours again. After laser treatment, patients tell us that after several months, they can wear sandals they haven’t felt comfortable wearing for years. The physicians at Affiliates in Podiatry are pleased to announce the arrival of the Noveon Podiatric Laser.

Nail fungus and treatment options

If you have discolored, brittle or ragged toenails, the cause may be a fungus that grows beneath the nail.  Nail fungus is difficult to eradicate because it grows under the nail plate in the nail bed. Topical medications have a low success rate, because unless the nail is removed, it is difficult for them to reach the fungal infection. Oral drug therapy may be effective in up to approximately 75 percent of patients, but there are potential side effects from the medication, including liver toxicity.

Today, at Affiliates in Podiatry, there is a better answer - Laser therapy can penetrate the nail and eliminate the fungus, making it possible for toenails to grow back without discoloration.

The Noveon Podiatric Laser is specifically designed to treat toenail fungus

Treating up to four toes at the same time, our Noveon Podiatric Laser penetrates the nail surface and destroys the fungus, without the unpleasant heat build-up or fumes common with some lasers. In less than a half hour the automatic treatment program is complete and you can resume your day’s activities.  There are no restrictions, and no side effects.  You are likely to see results in few months as new nail surface grows in to replace the nail discolored by the disease.

The Noveon Podiatric Laser utilizes two specific wavelengths of laser light for advanced microbial destruction. The uniqueness of the Noveon therapy lies in the fact that it harnesses a patented near-infrared photo-inactivation effect to achieve the elimination of bacteria and fungi while preserving healthy tissue. The result of the Noveon therapy is to advance the recovery process with virtually no side effects.

Here is how the Noveon Podiatric Laser works:

  • The laser light from the Noveon Laser is targeted to the infected toes and surrounding tissues safely and reliably
  • Precisely targeting the laser light is done via 'intelligent' patient guards attached to the toes
  • The two wavelengths of laser light penetrate deep below the nail surface to reach the infected nail bed
  • The fungus in the nail bed is inactivated by the laser light while preserving healthy tissue
  • The fully automated design of the Noveon Podiatric Laser ensures the correct dose is given for each treatment every time without fail
  • Up to four toes can be treated simultaneously in 16 minutes
  • Typically 3 laser treatments are needed to fully eradicate fungus

FAQ

What causes toenail infection?

Toenail infections can be caused by poor shoe/sock ventilation or walking barefoot in damp areas such as a

pool, gym or locker room.

Are toenail problems always caused by toenail fungus?

No. Other diseases may cause discoloration.  We will determine whether you have toenail fungus before

recommending treatment.

What if I do nothing?

The condition is likely to worsen over time if measures are not taken to stop the infection. Pain in your

toenails or an unpleasant odor may result.

Is treatment painful?

Sometimes a warm tingling sensation occurs. If the warmth causes some discomfort the patient can stop

treatment instantly for 10-15 seconds and then resume.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?
The treatment itself can take between 16 and 45 minutes depending on the number of toenails treated.

How soon will I see improvement?

On average, a toenail will replace itself every 9-12 months. Healthy new growth will be visible within the

2-3 months following treatment and will be seen typically at the base of the nail.

How many treatments are needed?

For some patients with limited infection one treatment is sufficient.  Others may require a second or third

Treatment for maximum effectiveness.

Is treatment covered by Insurance?

Insurance companies view nail fungus as a cosmetic condition and therefore not a covered service.

Does laser treatment work?

Yes. In long term testing the vast majority, approximately 85 percent, saw improvement.
